Museum of Science [Boston]

Alright, it's been a week since I returned home and I have yet to write anything about our vacation. So I figure it's about time I get on it. You ready?

We left around 2pm on Sunday, June 30th. Our plan was to drive through the night and arrive in Boston in the morning. Why did we decide to do this? So that when we got there we could spend a few hours with his family while we rested and not lose an entire day. Plus, KBug was only awake for the first 7 hours of the drive before she was out like a light for the night. It was really easy to get her to sleep, too, because I didn't give her ADHD medicine to her that morning. That way she got her energy out before we closed her up in the car and then when it came time to try to sleep she'd be tired enough to relax and actually get to sleep. My plan worked out really well for us!

I drove for the first 7 hours and we stopped in Fredericksburg, VA because we had been sitting in traffic for nearly an hour and were getting irritated. So we stopped for a bit, got some dinner and hopped back in the car. Mr. Boston drove from there on out and the rest of the ride went smoothly. We stopped a few times, once so Mr. Boston could sleep for a little while, but we made it to Boston around 7am. I think we made some pretty good time!

That day we just hung around his aunts house for the most part, but we did spend a couple of hours at the mall with his cousins. It was a lot of fun just walking around what I would call a "real" mall. What is a "real" mall? Well, it's one that has more than 20 stores and actually has foot traffic going through it. There were all sorts of stores that I hardly ever get to see just because we live in such a small town and our mall isn't even really a mall in my opinion. Maybe it's just my California upbringing? I don't know.

At the end of the day we were all pretty exhausted. Driving for 15 hours, walking around the mall for several hours and we were done. Basically we all collapsed that night. KBug was out quick, and Mr. Boston and I weren't far behind her.

The next morning Mr. Boston and I were up bright and early. We headed out for a quick run, made it half a mile and decided it was a really bad idea to keep going. It had rained not long before we woke up and the humidity and the smog in the air were making it seriously difficult to breathe. It was awful and I was disappointed that I couldn't run more, but knew it would end badly if I kept at it. Besides, there was always tomorrow to try again!

After our run, we woke KBug up, got dressed and ready for the day and headed out for the Museum of Science! We had asked his cousins the day before if they wanted to join us and were vehemently refused. Apparently their recollections of class field trips to the Museum were not pleasant and they felt no need to relive their experiences, even if they were old enough to go off on their own.

So, off we went. Instead of driving into the city, we chose to take KBug on the train. So we found the closest station to the house that had available parking and we purchased our tickets. KBug thought the whole experience was fascinating and couldn't wait to hop on and ride! Once we got on, though, she was quickly bored and frustrated by the stops every few minutes while we made our way all the way down the line. She managed to make it through, though, with the promise of a fun day ahead!

When we finally reached our destination, we walked a block down the road and arrived at the Museum of Science! KBug was so excited to be there and ready to just run right in! But first we had to stop and get our tickets. We are members of the NC Aquariums down here which earned us free admission to the Museum of Science which was, basically, awesome. (We had done our research before we left and carefully selected a couple of places we would get into for free or a discounted price.)

So we stood in line to get our admission all squared away, as well as tickets to the show in the Planetarium, the Butterfly Garden and a 3D movie about the life cycle of butterflies. Once we had our times and tickets, we wandered in to the Museum exhibits!

It started off kind of slow for KBug, with Mr. Boston having a bit more fun than she was. But she slowly got into it and soon, once she realized she could touch things and explore, she was off and running! I'd love to explain every little detail of everything we did, but we could be here for hours if I did that. So I'll show you in pictures.

This is when she figured out she could touch things

Looking at the different types of creepers and clingers in the sea!

Investigating the difference between a deer hoof and a moose hoof.

They had an option to experience the different smells of the different animals.
Mr. Boston discovered that some of them were not too pleasant...

Differences between various kinds of bird feet.

My Mr. Boston and me!

My two loves in the Planetarium!

Giant butterfly/moth thing

Pretty butterfly picture I took!

I had a butterfly on my shirt :)

KBug had a butterfly on her shirt, too!

And Mr. Boston rescued a butterfly from the ground

Another pretty butterfly picture I took.

Just hanging out

This is the 3D movie we saw. KBug loved it!

The three of us at the end of the day.
Can you tell KBug was tired?
And still a little bit distracted by her surroundings? :)

By the end of our adventure at the Museum of Science, we were dead tired. So we headed back to his aunts house for the night and enjoyed spending the rest of our evening with his family. Check back soon for a look at our trip to the Boston Children's Museum!
